Irony

So earlier today I saw this news article in which Microsoft’s security chief proclaims that Windows is more secure than Linux. Then this afternoon I read about the new MSN Exploit. Now, in all fairness, MSN isn’t an OS (thank heavens!) but I have to confess I laughed aloud when I added that article to my crib sheet of things-to-blog-about.

Side note: I toss ideas and links in OneNote as they bubble up during the day. Yeah, notepad works too, but I like how onenote can manage all my scribbles and thoughts on many different topics - both home and professional. I’d like to put Linux on my laptop, but I’m torn… I’d hate to lose onenote. Maybe it would work with wine, might have to experiment before I switch over. I’m also terrified about losing the centrino’s integrated wifi, but I just found some driver resources this evening so feeling better about that.

If you’re into the sysadmin type stuff in the windows world (or just like poking around), a decent Infoworld column recently. Some new tools mentioned that are worth a look. One of these days I hope to compile a list of tools I like to play around with.

Tomorrow I plan to redo the network to put the vonage router in front of my firewall. This webserver may be down for a while, I’m pretty much expecting a new IP address (although I’ll try and clone the MAC from the existing router!) so DNS propogation will take a bit.
