I’ve had my XM Radio now for almost a year. Been great and useful not only for listening to what I want around town, but for road trips too. This last trip it really paid off for the wife and I. We probably logged over 20 hours just on the 80s channel alone. (H) But being able to quick jump to CNN or CNN Headline news was pretty useful as well. We happened to be on CNN Headline when the new pope was announced, for instance. Interesting stuff. Someday I’d like to better understand how the Vatican came to be where it is.
Speaking of which… CNN has some pretty ‘odd’ “news anchors”, don’t they? We were listening to some little news bit hosted by a woman who’s name I never did catch, but she was talking about the murder of the 13 or 14 year old girl down in Florida. Apparently a guy had confessed to the murder and the body had been found in a nearby pond (or did those happen in the opposite order?). Anyways, she goes live to some poor schlep down there in Florida. He’s reading off his bit of copy and then she starts literally hollering to interrupt him and proceeds to spend the next 15 minutes railing against the dead girl’s mother. Regardless of how you actually feel about the parenting situation, I must confess I was quite shocked to see a news thing turn into a complete editorial situation. Actually, somewhat pissed. Now, maybe I missed a step in the programming, but my little display thing said news, not opinion. Crazy stuff.
Oh, and if you’re a XM Radio owner, check out listen.xmradio.com when you have a moment. They appear to now be giving away the internet broadcasting as part of the package. I’m loving that at work — no longer need to carry in my radio from the truck.
