More family stuff

Yesterday was another family day. I think I worked a grand total of about 15 minutes.
The morning was fairly casual. We just hung out and enjoyed the breakfast that my wonderful wife prepared (hi honey!). We had to take it easy and rest up a bit - we had tickets for the 11:30am showing of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I’m a bit behind on the books, so hadn’t read this one yet, but sure enjoyed the film. I think we all did with the exception of the youngest (5 years) boy… it was a bit long and, in places, a bit too intense/scary for him. But he hung in there without too much fidgeting. As I’ve proven in the past that I’m not much of a movie reviewer, I’ll just leave this at “I liked it a lot and you should go see it.” There, review finished.
After the flick, we drove up to Cherry Creek state park. The folks are thinking about towing their camper out next spring and wanted a look at a nearby camp ground. Cherry Creek is probably less than 15 miles north of here, so it seemed worth a shot. Nice facility. We toured the camp ground areas a bit while mom & dad made notes about what spots they might like to try and reserve. Then we wandered down to the beach area to check that out. VERY chilly and windy, but was still nice. Good sized lake there and there were tons of geese hanging out. We still had some popcorn with us from the movies, so the boys scattered some around. I won’t see the geese were overly tame… but with that popcorn on the ground they weren’t overly shy either. I haven’t seen any of the pics yet, but hopefully some good shots will come out of that. The park offers lots of other stuff to do as well - riding stables, rifle range, hiking, fishing, etc.
After the park tour we headed back home and hung out and goofed around. Had a casual supper of Boston Market and then headed downstairs for some more foosball and air hockey mayhem. The kids are starting to all get the hang of air hockey. The daughter is rather competitive… keeps the games interesting.
Dad and I spent some time last night going through my old tackle box. He’s thinking about taking up fishing. I used to fish a lot in the midwest and have lots of tackle just sitting on the shelf so… I explained the various jigs and spinners and we talked about different conditions that they might be used in. Hopefully he has some fun with it. I know I sure used to enjoy it a lot. I’d like to get back into fishing again, but where we live right now, and with our schedules, it just isn’t all that convenient… But hopefully by the time I get back into it, fly fishing won’t be so damned trendy
As usual, my folks left entirely too soon. They pulled out this morning and the house already seems too quiet. We’ll have a quiet and restful day at home today in preperation for the big holiday week coming up. Maybe I can talk CJ into putzing around with his mini-T later this afternoon.
