Two Free Digital Magazines

Since I’m a big fan of free and full of turkey induced good-will, thought I’d share two free digital magazines I stumbled over this afternoon.
First one is [IN]SECURE Magazine and appears to be related to the folks at Help Net Security. There are 4 issues online as of this writing. I’ve skimmed them and intend to read them in their entirety soon. While the web site itself isn’t overly informative, the mags are nice and “slick.” Seems to come out every couple months or so and offers an RSS feed to help you keep track of when the next one is out.
The latest issue:
- * Structured traffic analysis
- * Access Control Lists in Tiger and Tiger Server - true permission management
- * Automating I.T. security audits
- * Biometric security
- * PDA attacks, part 2: airborne viruses - evolution of the latest threats
- * Build a custom firewall computer
- * Lock down your kernel with grsecurity
- * Interview with Sergey Ryzhikov, director of Bitrix
- * Best practices for database encryption solutions
Second one is O3: The Open Source Enterprise Data Networking Magazine. Glad they’re not paying for real ink to print that title out each month! Their first issue just came out this week and it looks nice. I haven’t made it past the table of contents yet, but it covers quite a variety of topics.
November 2005 - Issue #1
* - Introduction to Open Source for Business
* - Control Voice Infrastructure Costs
* - Multilayer Switching with Linux
* - Deploying Wifidog Captive Portal
* - Lighttpd reviewed
* - Open Source Intrusion Detection Systems
* - Google Hacks and Google Hack Honeypots
* - AppOS — next generation Linux security
The geek in me is looking forward to this one too!
And now I might have to start bringing my Pocket PC home with me more often. I’m thinking that might make a good tool to read these PDF docs with. I really hate to kill trees and print them and don’t do real well at reading from my monitor — but I have lots of experience with ebooks on the Pocket PC so that might just be the ticket. Hope the PPC Acrobat Reader is up to the task of rendering these nice looking mags!
