Plea for Image help

Ok, I’m a complete feeb at image manipulation. I’m embarassed about it, but oh well — it just isn’t a strength I care to develop. But I sure can appreciate the importance of being able to work with graphics!
So, that being said… I have a TIF image of my “business” logo. I have the masthead of this blog as a JPG. In a perfect world, I’d shrink the TIF down to around 100px wide and merge it onto the masthead of this blog up in the upper left corner.
Doesn’t sound that tough, does it? But dang, I can’t do it with results that aren’t just pitiful. Anyone read this that might be willing to help? Contact me and I can email you the bits and pieces. Get your name as a blog entry title!
Oh - speaking of image tools (we were?), Paint.NET has left beta status.
Paint.NET is image and photo manipulation software designed to be used on computers that run Windows 2000, XP, Vista, or Server 2003. It supports layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools.
It started development at Washington State University as an undergraduate senior design project mentored by Microsoft, and is currently being maintained by some of the alumni that originally worked on it. Originally intended as a free replacement for the MS Paint software that comes with Windows, it has grown into a powerful yet simple tool for photo and image editing. The programming language used to create Paint.NET is C#, with a small amount of C++ for setup and shell-integration related functionality.
This thing is pretty slick and I’d been kind of watching it for a while now. It got me fairly close on my latest “merge two graphics” attempt, but then I stalled out when trying to make parts of a layer transparent…*sigh*
