A month and stuff (personal ramblings)

One month without nicotine! And after the third week my brain seems to be working again. Man, you’d think I’d learn… The physical addiction seems to be gone. The habit… I’m struggling there. Right now I’m thankful for “bacc-off“. Dunno if I would’ve made a month without it. There are other fake chews out there, but these guys seem to be the one that just feels “right”. Can’t buy ‘em locally, but I can order online.
I know eventually I have to whip the habit aspect too, but for now… this works. Suppose I should work on the gained weight issue too, but maybe that can wait until after the holiday food season ends.
If you’ve ever been involved with any sort of IT project, you’ll enjoy this picture. Ain’t it the truth? I think I’ll print out a few in full color and share a copy at each project kick-off I attend.
I keep reading about podcasting (example). I guess I don’t get it — or maybe that’s because I don’t live with an mp3 player attached? I like the concept, but for me to find time to listen I’d have to burn the things on to a CD and listen during my commute. And that just feels too much like work. And besides, I’m already a feed junkie, I don’t think I could manage adding audio into the mix.
Subscribing to more and more interesting RSS feeds these days. Feels a lot like lurking in small usenet groups, doesn’t it? Or maybe that’s just me.
I really gotta do something about the look and feel of the Solo Technology site vs. this blog. First my CSS skills will have to get a lot better… but I’m goofing around with it every now and then to see if I can come up with something I like. Frankly, a decent 3 column CSS template gets me mostly there, then I just get a bit bogged down with the graphics. I need to come up with a masthead type thing. Something that I can use for both. And color — need to decide on colors. I’m a bit tired of green and black on the main site to be honest. In my active fantasy life I envision myself taking off a week and half at the end of this month and hammering something out. I suspect my active work life will put the kibosh on that, but maybe… just maybe… I’ll manage it. Of course, that’s the same timeframe I was thinking about switching over to Ubuntu. lol!
And finally, Google Analytics seems to have caught up with the volume and is now working nicely. I’m actually rather surprised at the number of hits and returning visitors I get here. I need to add the analytics hook into wordpress’s RSS generator thingy (if that’s possible) since I have NO clue how many might subscribe to the feed and not visit. Or is that why folk use services like Feedburner? Another thing to look into some day…
Interesting stat: Around 30% of my hits come direct to the site, the rest are referred via other sites. Who’d a thunk? And over 75% of my readers use Firefox ![]()

Congrats on the smoke free!
Interesting stat that surprised me was the high percentage of ppl driving around at 800×600 (40%).
I’m still bothered by the percentage of hits that come from my home office. It feels very big brotherly of them (7%). I keep thinking I should say something about work and see how long until the poodoo hits the fan… then I remember I like having a roof over my head.
Wow 75% of your readies use Firefox.
so that means 3 of the 4 people total that com here use it?
HA! I posted a response on WordPress {I’m the one who’s admin rights blew away} and included a comment about Checking Out Our Podcast, and I see that you *sniff* don’t *tear* care. Ha! Just kidding. I know you care; you cared enough to try to help with my admin issue!
