New Gmail features

Last week we got Antivirus scanning added to gmail. Now I notice (after a tip from simplerich) that we have a couple new features added as well.

Web Clips - add news headlines and/or RSS/Atom feeds to your email account. As the folks who know I’m an RSS junkie might suspect, this one sounds great. Hopefully not too much like the Google feed reader which I don’t care for… Alas, while I see the option to turn this on in my gmail settings, I’ve yet to find where I go to add feeds… I think I’m still missing the “Web Clips” tab in my settings! Drat.

See it now - This is the online attachment viewer.

Viewing attachments as HTML is a quick and easy alternative to downloading files. You can view the following types of files as HTML: .pdf, .doc, .xls, .ppt, .rtf, .sxw, .sxc, .sxi, .sdw, .sdc, .sdd, and .wml.

Very nice. I like that feature a lot.

Shortcuts on the Right - If gmail spots an address or tracking number in the email that you’re reading, it’ll add a link to either get you to that address or track that package. A nice little feature.

All in all, some nice stuff. I’m bummed that I can’t see Web Clips yet though. [All the Whats New stuff.]

Still no sign of Google Calendar. Apparently the google watchers in the blogosphere were duped… /sigh
