Corporate Blogs

Yesterday in a fit of optimistic of naivete’, I proposed to my employer that we should set up a corporate blog. I wrote up quite a large proposal explaining what a blog is and what it could do for us. I then sent it off to the 7 folks that I thought would be most interested or likely to contribute (a third of the company!).
It was met with a large round of indifference. :-\ Although our CEO did say (paraphrased) that if it is cheap and easy, he’s game. His was the only response. I guess that’s a start… and tells me that if I lead this effort I don’t think I’ll put too much for resources into until I see if there’s company “buy-in”. In fact, I think maybe I’ll set it up at wordpress.com initially.
Is it too trendy? Is this something only “web 2.0″ companies do? I dont’ think so, but am open to arguments or discussion. I think the biggest factor is the customers. Do we have the sort of customers that will “get it” and find it? Only one way to find out…
I was going to post a copy of my email here along with this article, but I think I’ll hold off on that for now. Not like we have any data policies at all, but why push my luck?

My company recently added a webforum type thing for folks and it’s being met with a HUGE round of indifference. Nobody says anything. Well, I do. I’m a post-count goon, but it’s like in the final days of ART. If the top five of us left the place would close down due to lack of use. I’m surprised by the lack of acceptance of new technologies, even, no - especially when I so easily see how useful they could/can be.
Instead we get e-mails, TONS of them where REPLY TO ALL is the way the conversation is being held. *sigh*
Well, got a couple more responses today, so I’m becoming more optimistic about the whole thing.
Crunched for time the next week, but then going to try and get us setup (still thinking wordpres.com to start). Have someone that I’m nudging along that I think would be great to be in charge of “corp communications” so just hanging to see if she’s game to try or not.
(and she might even read this)
