O.M.G. — do people really pay this?

So I was just fantasizing about hanging out at Starbucks in the morning, sipping coffee and busting out a couple hours of work while waiting for traffic to lighten up each morning.
Sounds positively yuppy’ish, yes? Perhaps even idyllic? Heck, I’m willing to try. I’m a trendy guy. Golly, I even have both ears pierced and own a laptop!
But holy shiznit! According to Yahoo’s Wi-Fi hotspot finder, my nearby Starbucks gets either $6 an hour, $9.99 a day or $29.99 a month for wi-fi access.
Egads! Is that the norm? And, more importantly, do people pay that thinking that’s a good deal? Personally, I’m kinda bummed…
[maybe I should add a "whining" category now?]

Oh lordy. Rich is on to something. Or on something. Not sure…
Starbucks is really missing out on some significant business by not offering free wifi in their cafes. Perhaps they have a reason for this though, as people (like me!) like to camp out for hours and nurse a single beverage while leeching free wifi. I don’t do this as much as I use to, but I’ll likely resume this when classes start again in March.
In Denver proper, there are loads of independent cafes that offer free wifi. Nothing more than a Comcast line with a linksys strapped to it. Whatever, free wifi is free wifi. You could also visit Panera Bread or Einstein Bros Cafe, they have free wifi too.
