Be careful of what you blog about…

The last few days I’ve been writing about Social Bookmarking. Interesting stuff, and I think there’s a few more articles to come. As I write the articles, I tag ‘em against the catch all “Web 2.0″ category just to help organize things a bit.
Well, apparently I’ve tossed out enough of those that some search engines had me appearing pretty high. In fact, according to Monika in Austria, I was 2nd in whatever search engine she used! Yikes. So, I became a target. Monika wrote an interesting article about how people blogging about Web 2.0 can’t even get their pages to validate cleanly. In other words, master web 1.0 before rushing off to create something new (yes, I’m paraphrasing…) So, I got hoisted because not only does this blog not validate perfectly (a fine rainy day project), but as a coder she even found a busted form on my old site’s contact page. Doh! At least she was kind enough to send an email to me.
Well heck, at first I was a cross between bemused, amused and perhaps even a little cheesed. I had a lot of german in Jr. High and High School, but that was awhile ago and not all that “modern”. I couldn’t quite puzzle out the true meaning of the post, but felt a bit maligned. Google translate kinda helped, but not really. So, I dropped her a note to get more details, which she translated and included in comments of her post. She then responded to that and translated a version for me. Very friendly! So now I kinda understand where it is all coming from. But for a while there it was a bit surreal.
All cool now, though.
Oh, and I’m just assuming Monika is a girl’s name… I hope I’m not wrong. Don’t want to start any international incidents!

Monika dropped me an email reply, so I thought I’d share it here. It helps explain her position on Web 2.0 and validation. There are some other comments at her site worth reviewing if you can translate them.
Thanks Monika!
