Hey, if you need to do a search, check out DumbFind. Pretty slick search engine that puts two fields in front of you: one for the search term and one for tags. Just to keep it interesting, after a search, you have a “tag cluster” on the left to look at. Content in the middle. News(?) on the right. Truly, very interesting search engine. There’s some interesting reading from their Technology link. A sample:
How do tags affect my search?
When you use tags to refine a search, you get results that concentrate on the basic topic described by the tag that contains the keywords you search for. Tags are especially useful when searching a specific topic, or when you’re searching for a very ambiguous set of words. Tags are like an add-on bonus, though, and you don’t need to use them all the time.
Granted, I’m still trying to figure out all the nuances. Searching for my employer was… interesting…. the first/top part of the tag clusters listed must be ad or sponsor related, at a guess. It certainly had no relevance to what I searched for. However, the ability to specify a search term followed by a tag or two really gave me some interesting results on a few test searches. I think I’ll be back here again.
Now, I’m categorizing this as Web 2.0 because of the tagging. However, I don’t see “social” in the equation. And that’s ok as what I’ve seen thus far works well (for me). That being said…
… Another site I plan to look at soon is Blummy. They fall under the “Social Search” banner and are rather interesting themselves. Stay tuned.
