I’ve recently switched to Bloglines for both my desktop and pocket pc feed reading. In general, that’s working very well. The key to that is that I really like knowing that I don’t have to muck around with keeping two readers in sync.
However, I recently came across a Pocket PC app by the name of FeederReader and gave it a look. Why? Well, if I can find something to take a few steps out of moving them dang podcast mp3’s to the pocket pc, I’m all for it. Not that it is all that cumbersome, but I figure it could be a bit easier.
It seems like this product should be able to help me if I can get it all sorted out. I’ve somehow managed to lose my feed list a couple times now, so that’s a bit disconcerting…
Pros:
- Adding a feed is dead simple
- Reading “regular” feeds works great
- Podcast support
- if I know I’m going somewhere with sporadic coverage, I could do the online OPML import that it offers and have a reader that supports offline for the duration.
Cons:
- Help manual is online only.
- I’m struggling a bit with how to get a bit more control of the actual enclosure downloads. I don’t necessarily want everyone of them that comes in my podnova feed.
- My iPAQ is a bit dated and some activities in this app are, as a result, a bit sluggish… to be fair, that’s not the program’s fault though. I’m just too cheap to replace something that still works.
Disclaimer (of sorts): This is just a first look. As you can see, I need to do some reading as I got a bit bogged down in figuring out how to convince it to do what I want with the enclosures.
I like what I’ve seen thus far and could even say that if I ever feel the need to do all my feed reading on the iPAQ (ignoring podcasts for the moment) this would be just the ticket.

Thanks for trying out FeederReader! There’s a post on the FeederReader forums that explains the hierarchical properties and setting enclosure downloads. It might help clarify things for you: http://feederreader.pocketcasting.com/viewtopic.php?p=1011#1011
If you have any questions about how to get FeederReader to work for you, I read and respond in the FeederReader Forums all the time (www.FeederReader.com sidebar “Forums”).
