Maybe I’ve not been paying attention, but it seems like there are a bunch of new features in Google Desktop (beta). For instance, “Search across computers” is pretty darned compelling, and I sure don’t remember that from the last beta. Is there a new announcement coming soon, I wonder?
Have to say, google makes it difficult to figure out what version of a product is out there… but looking at the “updated” and “new” tags has me interested in upgrading.

Heck, It was blogged by google, I just wasn’t monitoring the right blog! I guess this is version 3.

TechCrunch points out some privacy concerns. I hadn’t caught on to the fact that your search data may not be staying local anymore if you plan on using the features to search on/from multiple computers. I suppose all the band-wagon folks are going to be lathered up today about this issue! (I may be one of ‘em…)

“EFF urges consumers not to use this feature, because it will make their personal data more vulnerable to subpoenas from the government and possibly private litigants, while providing a convenient one-stop-shop for hackers who’ve obtained a user’s Google password.”
