coComment Without an Invite

So yeah, perhaps I’m a bit behind the times, but I noticed this morning that I could stop waiting for someone famous to bless me with a coComment invite — they’re open to the masses now. For folks who like to leave comments on blogs and try to follow up with them, this thing is just a huge time saver. And easy to use too. Ever leave a comment for an author and wonder if they replied? You want this.
When you comment on a blog, coComment keeps a copy of your message on a special page - called “your conversations” - that allows you to quickly see your comment and where it was posted, with a link to the original site.
Really, you leave your comment as normal, with one extra step. Before clicking “Submit” for your comment, first click your coComment bookmarklet. Then click Submit. Another line will show up back at your coComment “Your Conversations” page and you’ll be able to, from one page, keep an eye on all the various posts to which you’ve replied.
Couple of other nice benefits with this. One is aimed, again, at the bloggers and gives a blogger the ability to put a list of recently commented stuff up on their blog:
Display all the comments you make accross the blogosphere on your own blog. In one easy step you can show your readers where you’ve been commenting recently. Don’t lose the value you create on other’s blogs, benefit from it!
And finally, some notification options. I rather like the idea of subscribing to an RSS feed of all the gunk I’ve commented on. Might be interesting.
Now I’d wager that this service will be huge in the long run. So, the usual question applies: How the company/investers hope to cover expenses, or even profit? I see they got funded though — granted, if I was an investor and saw something like this I’d be on it like green on grass. Assuming there’s a business model. And I guess, with the potential huge numbers of eyes that’ll be hitting this site, there’s got to be some interesting ways of making this pay for itself without resorting to a stupid amount of ads. I hope!
Pretty neat stuff. I look forward to playing with this more in the near future. And, lest I forget, I should mention that like most current web applications, this is a beta.
