code named: Origami

You’ve probably, by now, heard the buzz about the super-duper secret project from Microsoft code-named “origami”. If not, just go to technorati or google or something and search… I’ll spare the back story.

Engadget thinks they have the scoop.

I think they’re may be on the right track. But I have thoughts:

Last summer I spent some time with MS market researchers talking about some possible future products and how we, as a family, might use them. [read the article, spare me retyping it] One of the ideas kicked around was an actual hardware implementation. So this “family management” thingy wouldn’t be just a web site or software, but maybe there’s be a hardware aspect as well; something you could leave around in the kitchen, for example.

Ya think?

[later] Nope, I was wrong. This must be an example of viral marketing or “long tail marketing” in action. There’s a big leak with pictures and — gasp — a long flash video. Looks like an oversized PDA mixed with a very small tablet PC. The video, while goofy, showed off some interesting uses. I’m intrigued.
