[man, I'm glad the folks at work don't really get this whole blogging thing yet or these topics would get quite awkward]
I mentioned SimplyHired in a post last week. Still have those feeds rolling in. Received a comment to that article suggesting a I have a look at Indeed.com as well. As I’m a slave to the comments, I had to at least look, right?
The first view presented is a very simple, almost “google’ish” search screen. Enter “what” and “where” and you’re off and searching. I never know quite what to search on, but I threw a few generic terms in and had a look. Very impressive list returned. Oh, and be sure to check out preferences from that search page to set some basic parameters (stored as a cookie) to help tune searches a bit.
Advanced Search offers some more useful filtering options. Now I can easily filter out all of those SAP jobs that seem to be so popular in the Denver area, for instance. Sheesh. Or maybe that’s a hint that I should get better acquainted with that scene? Thoughts to ponder another day, I reckon.
Where do all the jobs come from? From the FAQ:
Indeed searches jobs listed on job boards, newspaper sites and niche sites. Indeed dynamically monitors job listings on these websites on a continuous basis, so in one simple search you can find the very latest jobs listed on every site.
Comparing Indeed to SimplyHired is interesting. They clearly have some different sources of jobs — and both provide a lot of value. Both offer RSS feeds which is just a forehead slapper as it seems so obvious in hindsight. Also, both offer great “Browse” options which can really aid in getting a search going. Frankly, I don’t know that I could see one is any better than the other. Think I’ll try and, as much as possible, get equivalent feeds going from them and try and get a feel for things after comparing the results for a few days.
Don’t hurt to be aware of what’s out there, right?

[...] First I looked at SimplyHired. That generated a comment suggesting I check out Indeed. That one generated an email from “Jenny” encouraging me to have a look at PageBites.com. Aren’t I eager to please? Seriously though, I think this is an incredibly useful type of application. I recall when I was actually actively looking for work a few years back and trawling a kabillion job boards was intensely frustrating and tedious. [...]
