Got My Gliffy Invite

Received my Gliffy beta invite this evening (last mentioned). Haven’t played with it enough, but first impressions are very positive. Ajaxy smoothness blended with an actually useful application is a good thing.
As you can see to the left, sharing a Gliffy diagram is very easy. From within the tool, you can save documents and export to jpg or svg. But you can also “Publish”. Publishing is pretty slick and dead simple — you get a few urls to use. One each for large, medium, small and thumbnail versions of your diagram. Use ‘em as you wish, but the beauty is if you go back and update the diagram, anything linking to those published links updates as well.
The UI for Gliffy is very straightforward and easy to use. On the left, you have your symbol pallets. Two options there right now: “Flow Chart” and “Basic Shapes”. The working document sits in the middle area. Properties dialogs live over on the right. Up above some toolbar icons to help select lines, connector lines (oh yeah baby, we got connectors!) and such. Side note, look carefully at the properties dialog on the right. All sorts of stuff buried in there (that’s where I found line arrows, for instance).
Perhaps I’ll write up more later, but I can already say that this thing is damned impressive. Visio killer? That really depends on how hard you push Visio. For the casual user though, I’d say the addition of a few more shape pallets and yeah… this could be their Visio replacement.
