Must be Beta Week

So far this week, I’ve received 3 beta invites to services I left an email with in the past.
First on is AllPeers. I’ve been waiting for this one for a while and even subscribe to their blog. This thing could be pretty cool if it takes off. What is it?
Unleash your online experience and add multimedia sharing
capabilities to your favorite browser.Share private photos worry-free. No passwords to remember, no public access.
Share your videos without uploading - save on hosting costs while saving time.
No cumbersome interface. No sharing restriction. Private and secure.
No spyware, no adware, no annoying advertisements.Do you like free software? Do you like Firefox? Do you like sharing?
We do! That’s why we built AllPeers.
I love things that share. Usually they suck. This one… looks good.
Next up is Zimbio (formerly Zoozio). “The people’s guide to the web” is the slogon. I haven’t completely wrapped my mind around what exactly this one is yet but it seems largely focused on managing public portals on a large number of topics.
Our network of public portals are designed to help people quickly get down the learning curve on any topic of interest by seeing what other people are reading, saying, and recommending about the topic. Public portals are interactive, dynamic websites that offer a range of features including group blogging, member photos, links to favorite websites, RSS headlines, tracking of search results, and discussion forums.
I’ve poked around a bit and am already intrigued by what appears to be quite a variety of “portals”. Going to a portal gets you to a “blog’ish” site with lots of posts, useful/related links, feeds, live chat and more. Intriguing.
And the final turns out not to be a beta invite, but a “warning” that my invite is likely coming soon. Apparently the beta has already started at Krugle. (cool info video) This is a search engine for developers that could be very useful to those of us slinging code. Look at the “Product” page (small sample):
Unlike conventional search engines, Krugle is designed to locate code. Krugle supports code search by crawling, parsing and indexing code found in all open source repositories, as well as code that exists in archives, mailing lists, blogs, and web pages. And Krugle makes navigating code repositories easy. For example, you can quickly navigate downward (from “Apache” to “Tomcat”), or start with a single source file and then view it’s relationship to another file, to see how it’s used. This ability to interactively browse and explore code in a meaningful context provides a more informed view and reduces the time required to make good code decisions.
