Krugle Beta Update

Krugle LogoJust a couple weeks after beta-4, Krugle has now released beta-5. And it is a beauty, in my humble opinion.

  • Simplified User Interface with single button search.
  • Easy access to advanced search features.
  • Filter by language, content type and location.
  • Direct access to project and API documentation.
  • Larger volume of documents and code searched.
  • Numerous bug fixes.

The UI is far more “useable” and makes searching in different ways (or searching different places) far easier and more intuitive.

Krugle Search Here are a couple of teaser pictures. The first one is showing what the initial search looks like and has the “found in” options expanded to show some of the ways that searches can be narrowed.

Krugle Search ResultsThis second shot is after I’ve chosen a file from the search results. Now I’m looking at actual source in the left tab. Over in the right is a view of the project that the file is from. It is very convenient to poke around in the rest of the project’s source from this point.

I’ve shown this to some of the folks I work with.  I think I can safely say that the general consensus is that we can’t wait for this to go live.

FYI, there’s an excellent fully functional open source code search engine open to all at http://www.koders.com.

Chris, thanks for the kind words. I’m really glad you like the new UI.

Personally, I love the project view. It’s like having all of that code just sitting around on my system. A guy I know was having problems getting some code from SourceForge the other day because their CVS access was still down so I just looked up the project in Krugle and pulled down all of the files and set it to him.
