Xubuntu and Opera

Got home from work this evening much earlier than normal. Had some time to kill and decided this would be a good day to figure out how to go about getting Opera installed on my little Xubuntu laptop. Turned out to be relatively simple.
A quick google search located the Ubuntu / Opera wiki page. Granted, this is aimed at the Ubuntu (not Xubuntu) folks, but I figured things shouldn’t be too terribly different. And I’m glad to say they weren’t very different at all. In fact, everything I needed turned out to be on that page.
I elected to go the apt-get route. First trick was having to locate my apt sources.list file. Finally found it languishing under /etc/apt. Once I found that, it was just as simple as following the directions.
oops. Not quite. Hit a dependency issue. And once again, just followed the instructions and got that sorted out as well. Back to the first part and I quickly had Opera 8.5-something-or-other running.
Oops.
I wanted 9 beta2! Just happened to glance back at the page I had used for the dependency issue and noticed that it continued on with a bit about installing from snapshots. Popped over to the Opera site, got my proper “etch deb” file and am writing this post in Opera 9b2 on Xubuntu. Sweet.
