Good Grief. Douglas County, Colorado Sheriffs are going to be wardriving, looking for open wireless networks. And if they can figure out owns it, they’ll drop off brochures and warnings.
I live in Douglas Country. I learned about this via Slashdot this afternoon and I don’t know if I should laugh or cry. Fortunately, the tfa seems to indicate that not every sheriff is going to be off doing this:
The Sheriff’s Department plans to equip several of its community service and patrol cars with devices that detect unprotected computer networks.
Several isn’t all of ‘em, thankfully. Not that we’re a high-crime area but geez…
And then again, it is a nice public service. I mean hell, if you’re running an open access point and suddenly get busted because some miscreant was parked out front using your network to conduct online bank fraud… you’d be pretty bummed.
I just can’t decide how I feel about this.

I say kudos to them for solving all crimes that actually result in physical injury to folks. Hats off to ‘em. Saaaaaaa-lute!
