Windows 98, ME and XP sp1- End of Support

Direct from Microsoft: No More Support for Windows 98, ME and XP service pack 1. I have a couple relatives that are going to need upgrading… wonder if my Father-in-law is ready for linux?

  • The latest versions of Ubuntu, SuSE, etc. are very user-friendly. And many distros including Ubuntu have live CDs so you can try it out before committing to install.

  • If Vox hear’s you say this, or ask this… he’ll probably fill your mailbox with HOWTO links and pointers and more fanboi mail than I ever generated over kewlgle.com lol

    And yes, I agree with Marc, with the right distro and installations of openoffice and firefox with plugins (What I do to make sure my firefox is up to snuff is I go to neopets.com and play some games if that site works it’ll pretty much do anything) you’ll be able to hook him up with linux relatively painlessly.
