Active Security Monitor?

AOL Active Security MonitorWhat do we know about Active Security Monitor? Anyone used it?

I know it is free. I know it is from AOL. CNet gave it 5 stars.

Active Security Monitor is a software program that helps you determine how vulnerable your PC is to computer viruses, spyware and other dangers and learn what steps you can take to improve your protection. And if you have more than one PC in your home network, you can use Active Security Monitor to check the security status of your entire home network.

So it checks things like antivirus, firewall and assorted other security things and gives you a score. And offers suggestions of “products, services, settings and articles” of how to improve your score in various areas.

Now, with AOL going ad-based soon, I guess I have to wonder what the suggested products are — advertisers’ products?  I’m usually fearless, but I’m not quite ready to install this one to have a look.  But I’m intrigued…  if it delivers as promised could make a nice tool to have in the Toolkit.

So… you ever get back to finding out if this was the bees knees or not yet?

I’m assembling a collection of internet posts by bloggers and publishing it for gobs of money, mind if I publish yours with a mis-spelled attribution that doesn’t specify which ones were yours? *grin* J/K!!!

Not enough, yet. A client had it on their machine so I played with it a bit… but not enough to answer my questions related to what products and services are suggested - ad driven or truly useful.

If I remember I’ll grab it and plop it on this thing. It’s a work laptop… what do I care? *grin*
