Another Dev Tool? MS XML Notepad 2006

XML Notepad icon Looks like the good folks at Microsoft released another interesting and free tool last week. XML Notepad 2006 came out last friday and, at first glance, is one of the slickest free tools I’ve seen for mauling XML documents. Err, I should mention it is does have some “windows-only requirements“… but if you’re in the windows world and a developer you’ll probably want to add this to the toolkit. But hey, no registration nags and no hit to the wallet.

It makes looking over XML documents rather painless. Here’s an example of an RSS feed:

Basic tree structure and as you select nodes on the left, you see the contents on the right. You can add/delete/change pretty much anything along the way.

Now, if you have a style-sheet laying around (like this example does), when you click the XSL Output tab you get a lovely little preview:

Very cool.

At any rate, as a quick way to easily work with XML and even modify/edit it, this thing is pretty sweet.
