AIM Light

Haven’t conformed to the all-in-one IM utilities that I mention here from time to time (meebo and gaim for the most part)? AOL is experimenting with a daring concept: A “light” version of AOL Instant Messenger. Without ads and all the ker-blinkin’ lights. Think of it as beta, but if you insist on using the AIM client, at least give this more svelte version a shot.

I found this in a blog post. This is a great omen of how some AOL services may be changing in light of the fact that AOL is no longer in the “access” biz (see The New AOL — I think I neglected to blog about that…).

AIM Light has no ads, no VOIP, no file-transfer, and a TINY footprint… in fact, I think it is the lightest IM client you run on your machine. This is something you could run on OLPC level machine (yes, I know it’s a Windows product right now, but you get the idea).

What a great idea.
