Performancing Sold. Kinda.
Back in mid-November I wrote a short article about the apparent upcoming demise of Performancing Metrics. I was bummed. If nothing else, no other metrics solution I’ve tried makes viewing referrers so darned simple. In fact, all their reports are very easy to use and understand.
This morning I saw TechCrunch’s announcement that Performancing is about to be acquired by PayPerPost. It mentions that the Performancing plugin for Firefox is not part of the deal and in fact will be spun off.
I’ll spare you my thoughts on PayPerPost, but I’ll link their blog post on the acquisition. I guess Performancing Exchange was part of the deal too. I had never quite figured that one out (oh hell, I’ve never completely understood Performancing in general either!)
Nick, from Performancing, has a post up as well. In it, he clarifies that not only is the Performancing Firefox extension not part of the deal, but the Performancing Ad network isn’t either. They’ll be re-branded soon.
… I’d already taken down my Performancing ad network banner before reading that though. Heh. After several months and no bites not sure I’ll stampede to put it back up.
So, if we’re keeping score, it looks like 2 services go to the new owners, 2 services get rebranded. And the claimed “28000 users” ride along with both I guess?
From a metrics point of view I guess the really good news is that a great (and traditionally free) analytics service will live on. The concern is how/if it will change with the new owners. For that we’ll just have to wait and see.
