I’d not really paid attention to this until recently, but Google Reader has a “Shared Items” feature that could be very interesting to play with.
The idea here is that as a Google Reader user is reading their feeds, they can opt to mark articles that might be interesting to others. The shared articles get their own web page (here’s mine), RSS Feed and the option to even add a clip to a site (sample at the bottom of this post).
Others have had similar notions recently (have a look at this #!/user/bin/geek post — and the comments!). A Sphere search turns up some more interesting discussions as well.
I might toy with adding a feed or the widget to a sidebar or footer here. Seems like it could be interesting. Thoughts?
Here’s a sample of my currently shared stuff:

This is a great feature, but one problem with it is that this script does not generate valid XHTML 1.0 code. I have raised this with Google Reader, but don’t expect to receive an answer any time soon!
Definitely a valid concern, Donovan. That bugs me a bit too, but I like this thing enough to overlook it.
