Google Reader in Netvibes

I’m probably being silly… but wouldn’t it be nifty if Netvibes had a Google Reader module?

I already have all my feeds in Google Reader. I have no need or desire to see them individually in Netvibes. But I’m using Netvibes for a lot of other stuff (future post topic most likely…) and it just seems like it’d be nice if it’d at least have some simple integration. Kind of a “control panel” view of my online life.

Dreaming? Perhaps… but it’d sure be cool. For reference, I can integrate Reader at the Google personalized start page. But I can’t add multiple Gmail accounts to that one. Boo and hiss. And really, I reckon that’s my main beef.

Ideal world? A personal home page that will let me do both: Multiple Gmail accounts and simple Greader integration. Any ideas?

I haven’t tried it yet, but can you use a firefox view as IE plug in to let you open a gmail account with the view as IE tab tricking the browser into accepting a second cookie for the same site?

That works once. Then I’ll need to find the “Firefox view as Opera” to get the 3rd one… which begins to get silly. ;-)

For gmail, netvibes handles the multiples just fine.

Yeah, I feel the exact same way! I have a good investment in Netvibes already, but the value of Google Reader and being able to see ALL posts from a feed (not just the latest 10) is invaluable.

Hi Michael, thanks for stopping by. Now that Netvibes has this UWA API, I’m hoping to find some time and build a GReader widget.

So far, finding time has been a challenge, but perhaps after the kids are done with spring soccer… :)

I was looking for the same thing when I recently started using netvibes. I found this thing called bitty browser and installed it on a separate tab. I have it set to my google reader page and it’s nice because I don’t have to open another window for greader. Not sure if this is helpful or not. Cheers!

Beej, that’s an interesting idea. Thanks!

why not set your home page as two tabs (netvibes + google reader).

I would love to have this as well, but I will try the Bitty Browser thing. I like Netvibes, but I prefer getting the river of news that Google Reader gives.

Hey myke – too pragmatic! :-)

Rob – I keep forgetting to try the Bitty Browser approach (I pretty much had settled on what myke is advocating). If you try it, I’d be curious to hear what you think.

Well, a few things. I actually have both items set in a Firefox extension called My Morning Coffee (http://www.shaneliesegang.com/projects/coffee.php). It works well, but it loads a bunch of other pages I need for work and stuff.

But I did use the option to add an HTML page to a single tab in Netvibes and have gReader in that. It works well, and it works well.
