Google Reader to Report Reader Counts!

Hey, this is some pretty exciting news if you’re into metrics/analytics. Until now, I never really knew how many folks were using Google Reader or Google Personalized Desktop to read my feeds. Unlike others, they didn’t report the user count when pulling the feed (note: Reader doesn’t pull the feed for every subscribed user. Instead, it pulls a few times a day and everyone “shares” the feed. Economies of scale and such).

That changed today — Now it is easy to figure out how many are subscribing.

Once Feedburner adjusts, it looks like my feed reader count is about to go up 50 or so. Crazy stuff.

Google also offers this interesting “Google Reader for Publishers” page that is worth a read if you’re a publisher (aka blogger.
