Fon Router Arrived

Less than two weeks ago I mentioned the Fon offer and today my free La Fonera wifi router arrived. Not just free, but fast and tiny too.
As a reminder:
FON is the largest WiFi community in the world. Our members share their wireless Internet access at home and, in return, enjoy free WiFi wherever they find another Fonero’s Access Point.
To give you an idea of size, here are a couple (blurry) pictures. I apologize for the quality, but hopefully you’ll get the idea…
For perspective, that’s my Razr in the second picture. Tiny.
Glancing at the quick install guide, this looks pretty straightforward. Connect the internet port on the La Fonera to my router to get started, then browse to it from a wifi computer. This thing acts as if it is two access points: a public one (FON_AP) and a private encrypted one just for the family. As near as I can tell from a quick look at the support area, it is even WPA.
I feel a bit silly setting this up in a residential neighborhood. Perhaps with some negotiation I can convince the owners to let me set it up at the office. But hey, regardless, I’m sharing!

Mine’s not here yet, but should be soon. I’m setting mine up in a residential area as well, and yeah, I feel silly doing it there too. The more are out there the better it is though right?
I’d think so. That’s my operating assumption.
Going to leave it at the house, too. The office sometimes has bandwidth issues as it is, no sense making that any worse.
I’ll definitely be watching for the “FON_AP” in my traveling around town now.
You checked the map to see if there are any near you? I keep meaning to but forgetting to. You’d think I’d go do it now, but American Idol is on.
I’m definitely the only one in my little suburb. Haven’t checked around the office and clients’ yet.
What speed does FON router have?
Hi Ash, I’m getting 54 Mbps connections.
