Yahoo Web Mail goes BIG

Yahoo Mail LogoGoogle Mail’s paltry 2+ GB of storage just not enough for you? Check out what Yahoo Mail is up to:

As Yahoo! Mail approaches its 10-year anniversary, I’m the lucky one who gets to announce that we will begin offering everyone unlimited email storage starting in May 2007.

Egads. That’s just … nuts!

[...] And, like any responsible webmail service, we have anti-abuse limits in place to protect our users. BTW: As much as we’d like to just flip a switch and “unlimit” everyone on the same day, we’ll be rolling this out over a few months to facilitate a smooth transition [...]

Of course, the first thing I thought of was emailing automated nightly blog database backups to myself. Then I saw the “anti-abuse” limits. Guess I better wait to see what those are.

Have you checked out the “new” Yahoo Mail interface? It really is a big step forward from where it used to be. However, the anti-spam stuff is leagues behind where the GMail folks are… that’s a major downer. Well, the ads could be less obnoxious too. But the interface is slick at least. Hopefully that doesn’t read as if damned by faint praise…

But unlimited. A guy might put up with more “challenges” for unlimited.

(note to self: Check to see if the new interface works with Opera yet…)

  • Hi, I just found this randomly while looking up the best email solutions. I’m a big gmail fan, am getting used to tags instead of folders, and love the integrated chat… but I REALLY like the idea of unlimited space.

Good idea on the nightly backups :) I might try to test the ‘abuse policy’! just kidding…
