A New Way to Access Google Notebook

I was just doing a quick Google search and noticed something new (I think?). You know that little linkbar across the top of the screen? I’ve never noticed the “My Notebooks” link there before:
![]()
Now, is that just showing up because I actually use Google Notebook, or does it show up for anyone logged into their Google account?
Here’s where it gets interesting. Up to now, I’ve always had the Google Notebook Firefox extension loaded to actually see the notebook in the little window — lets me get to my stuff without leaving the current page. This new link appears to be popping up without the need for the plugin. In fact, it works with IE7. There’s potential here.
Granted, it disappears when you actually click on a result from a search… And frankly, without the “Note this” in the context menu, I’m not quite sure how to use it or what the intended use here is. For instance, if I hit the link in IE7, while the Notebook is up, I can no longer hilight text on that web page. I must’ve missed a Google blog post explaining this?
Hopefully, this means that in the future we’ll have more (and platform independent) options to quickly or easily get to our GNotes.
[update] Oops, some disclosure should happen here. I saw the headline of this Cybernet post earlier today. Meant to “star” it, as that’s what I do to posts I want to read closer (or read period). Instead, I apparently “shared” it. Doh!
I had just posted this article and was on my site checking things out and saw the shared post… I read it and concluded that I look like a post thief! Thus this rambling disclosure.
Now having read the Cybernet article, I see I missed the “Note This” link at the end of each search result. Expected usage becomes clearer.
