Over 6100 Served

Holy cow!  I was just looking at my profile over at the WordPress support forums.  I’ve participated in over 6100 support threads. To me, that’s a really big number.  Yep, I’m tooting my horn.

And oh yes, I’m well aware of folks with lots more (/waves to moshu)  But hey, this is me…

I’ve been insulted, called names, ignored, stalked* and all sorts of fun stuff.  Yet I keep coming back.  I’m not even sure what the motivation is anymore. I used to love to see someone respond with a “hey, that worked” or even a “thanks” but that’s not it so much lately.  Now it’s just cool to see them get a blog going.

Or, even more exciting, to seem them come back later answering questions instead of (or along with) asking.

I had some other thoughts on support a few months back.   Even had a nice “attack” comment left if you’re curious.

*Stalked – no really!  I’ve had folks send emails to every account they could find, linkedin invites, phone calls  (that was creepy…) and, of course, blog comments on many/multiple posts here.  Digitally stalked, but still.  Ugh.

  • OK so maybe I will take up your challenge to go from being a question asker to also being a questions answerer as well. Do you have any suggestions Chris on how to best manage being support-er?

  • Hi Leah. Tell you what, I think your comment has just inspired a new blog post in the near future :)

Number one thing to best manage being a supporter? Patience. No doubt about it and something I think everyone struggles with from time to time.
    More to come…

  • … or I could link to the codex article titled, “Support Forum Volunteers” and call it good for now.

That’s actually a good one to read.

Hang out in the forums. Read threads. After you do that for a bit, you’ll start picking up on the ones you know. Answer those. :) Almost every time I go through forums, I learn something new.

  • Thanks for the pointer to the article in the codex. Maybe a good place to start being a good WP support person is by reading the codex ;-)

See you in the forums Chris

  • Well, I say congratulations on your 6100! I remember installing my first WordPress on my server two years ago and hitting a huge problem with permalinks. Guess who responded? Yup, ever since then, I have been subscribed to your blog, first by RSS feed, then by email notification. ( a very cool feature I incorporated)
I have been watching your every move! (muhahhahahah) If that qualifies for stalking,,,,hehheh.

Hrmmm LinkedIn,,,,hadn’t thought of that one yet. ;)

In any case, you do a great job for those of us getting started, keep it up!!!!

    6100? Woah!

Man, don’t think I’ve written that many lines of anything ever.

I’ll shop here for all my future WP needs. Definitely. Bookmarked!

    :)

  • I can’t even think of 6100 questions about anything that I could answer, very impressive

  • Thanks folks! Fortunately, that 6100 includes a lot of the same topics lots of times. ;-)
