Pownce’d

Alan, the evil mastermind behind the Creative Component enterprises, dropped an invite to Pownce on me earlier this evening. I recall reading a lot about it a couple months ago but not long after that it pretty much fell off my radar.
Naturally, I joined. I accept the fact that I’m just a joiner by nature…
For those who missed all the noise earlier this year:
Pownce is a way to send stuff to your friends. What kind of stuff? You can send just about anything: music, photos, messages, links, events, and more. You can do it all on our web site, or install our lightweight desktop software that lets you get out of the browser.
Have you done the twitter thing? Pownce is (arguably) similar, but with more bells and whistles. I’ll confess I did not join the twitter bandwagon. In fact, I might have even chuckled at the concept. Perhaps even made a snide remark or two along the way.
*sigh*
I’ve just been getting the hang of remembering to update my Facebook account from time to time — now I need to decide if this replaces some of that, or I do both? Or do I whine that I’m “social’d out” and do none? I swear, this web 2.0 social stuff can become taxing!
Who else is a Pownce’r out there? I’m looking for ideas or suggestions on how to use it.

I can’t find any reason to use Pownce. Instead of sending people pictures and files over Pownce I would much rather just twitter a link to it.
Hi Michael - honestly? Your point is quite valid — I’d just never found a reason to use twitter either (along with Pownce).
I’m a bit lost in this “open kimono” social space…
I suck at twitter/powncing. I make myself facebook every couple days because I feel like I should do SOMETHING, and I like the books function thingee of it a lot.
I feel like it’d eat into my blogging time or e-mail time. I’m starting to swear off anything that might be remotely 2.0 in nature just from overload.
Web 2.0 subtitled is “open kimono” I think. I really don’t want to know when an A-list blogger take a poo…
Pownce *is* fun to play with though. I’m just not sure what to do with it.
And you’re right, the facebook books thingy is strangely enjoyable.
I tried Pownce. Abandoned it almost immediately. Every time I tried to log in, it would tell me it had an error — and to email them and explain my problem. But the email link was broken! Enough already!
I couldn’t understand the value of Pownce. It couldn’t do anything that Twitter + Gmail or Google Docs couldn’t do…only better. What’s the benefit? What am I missing?
Anyway, this month, I’m committed to trying out Twitter. I’m 16 days into the Twitter experiment, and still trying to figure out the value.
It’s all in one place?
I dunno. I tried twitter a few months ago and dropped it the same day. Let us know if you find the value!
Awwwww! Thanks Chris.
I’ve officially declared that Twitter is dead to me.
I’ve interviewed Digg’s designer, Daniel Burka over at creativexpert.com. Daniel is one reason the Pownce UI is so great.
I’m not convinced there is a real value in Pownce or Twitter… yet. It’s clear that Pownce was a me-too effort. The tin-foil-headed ones surely won’t get it.
Since it’s possibly the first product of Rose’s new company Megatechtronium, I’m excited to see what’s next.
I do know that whenever I hop-over to Pownce, I find myself getting involved, commenting and finding new gold nuggets. Cuz I’m a joiner too!
