Validas Logo I’ve been playing around with the beta of Validas this evening and I think it’s going to be huge. While in beta the registration is free and I definitely suggest you have a look and try it out.

Here’s the deal: Go to your cell carrier’s site and download your most recent cell phone bill. Do the free registration at Validas and then upload your bill for analysis. Less than a minute later, admire the reports.

The idea is that Validas will analyze your bill — usage, plans, extras and then suggest changes that might save you money. Who can turn down a chance to save money?

In my case, the proposed savings are $44 a month on a $150 month bill (family plan, 4 phones). Incredible! Not changing carriers or anything silly like that. Just a plan change and some other minor adjustments.

Looking a little closer, it messed up on one piece, negating $10 of that savings. My daughter’s line had 1,047 SMS messages, but it interpreted that as “1″ (maybe it doesn’t parse commas?). But still — I’ll be calling my provider this weekend and investigating the proposed plan changes.

On the downside, I tried using the feedback form, but it blew up on me. A few other things are a bit unstable too. Be sure to stop by their forums and leave reports.

The proposed pricing doesn’t seem too terrible (remember, while in beta (or at least right now) it is free). $5 for a single bill analysis, $10 for 5.

If anyone else gives it a shot, share your proposed savings, I’d be curious to hear how it does for other people.

I just ran July and August’s phone bills through there and found the informational tabs (Utilization) way more interesting. The most called numbers was surprising to me.

I watch my bill really closely and re-evaluate it my self by hand as it were quarterly to make sure I’m not over paying. It still suggested I get rid of the insurance and gave the reasoning. Savings of $5.00/month.

I agree now that I’m past the first year of having the phone. When I’m in the first year of having the phone I’d rather have it though. Phones are so very expensive. I’ve used the phone insurance twice so it’s probably saved itself. (Phone fell off belt clip alongside the road somewhere between Texarcana and Memphis & next phone was dropped into a pot of spaghetti sauce. Neither phone was older than 6 months old lol.)

    Cool tool.

Oh geeze, good point. I didn’t even mention the other reports, did I? Some very useful stuff there.

$14 of my proposed savings is related to insurance as well (on two phones). I don’t think I realized that there was a $50 deductible. I think I’ll probably drop the insurance and toss $10 in an envelope each month for the inevitable disaster… and eBay the replacement phone. :)
