I pulled my 6800 GT video card this evening and replaced it with a wee little FX 5200 (I heard those snickers!). I noticed 3 things:
- The noise level in my office dropped dramatically.
- The case and CPU temps dropped dramatically.
- but - - This odd LCD flicker that I thought was caused by an overheating 6800 remains.
Curses. My LCD isn’t quite a year old. I’d hate to think it’s already going south on me.
Do DVI cables go bad? Maybe I’ll (shudder) try the analog cable just to see what happens.
[Updated] Turns out to be an issue with the monitor, not even a year old. I plugged it into my laptop and got the same(mis)behavior. Wife bought it for me last Christmas — and even bought an extended warranty. First time we’ve ever bought one of those and first time I’ll try to use one.
