It has been a long time since I last mentioned the Visual Studio Express stuff. At some point since then I see that new versions were released. And yes, they’re still free!
These things are great. Pretty full featured too. If you’re a hobbyist or home user — or just looking for a good way to come up to speed — you will definitely want to check them out.
There are Express editions of Visual Basic 2008, Visual C# 2008, Visual C++ 2008 and Visual Web Developer 2008. SQL Server 2005 Express and SQL Server Compact Edition are both there as well in the event that you need a database (or want to learn more about ‘em).
A DVD ISO with all the above on it is under 900 MB (mine is downloading while I type this).
