Quitting Yahoo! Messenger

I can’t log on to Yahoo! Messenger without getting spammed into oblivion. What makes it easier for spammers on Y! when compared to the other IM networks?
Regardless, I don’t intend to log back in anytime soon. Rather cheesed me off.

I quit Yahoo Messenger after I realized Trillian was eating memory without me using the program.
I know just about nobody who is on Yahoo Messenger. They’re all on AIM or Google Talk.
I use Y! but have never been spammed. Not once.
I don’t know what I did right or you did wrong, but Y! is the one I use the most. AIM is all co-workers, and please… I’m NOT talking to them! MSN is… who is on MSN? I can’t think of anybody.
MSN is my main messenger. I kind of forced my family and friends to talk to me on there only because I wasn’t going to use the others any more. Every so often I open up Yahoo in case there are messages and I see nothing but spam. Tons of it.
I think with MSN, you have to allow someone to be able to contact you. Although I’m not 100% sure on that.
This all started when I turned on Y! Messenger when I was in meebo earlier today. The screen literally exploded with spam IMs.
I have just a few folks left on Y!. Since MSN can talk to ‘em, I plan to avoid the Y! client from now on.
Rich, I bet there’s a setting somewhere that I could turn on that would stop folks from sending me messages if they’re not on my friends list. But I’d have to install the Y! client for that — and I haven’t had that for years.
Most of the folks I know are pretty much on MSN (work) and Google Talk (social and work).
I use nearly all chat protocols in order to keep in touch with friends I’ve accumulated over the years. I’ve been getting spammed on Y! occasionally, but not enough to quit using it.
I dont know anybody who uses Yahoo Messenger anymore either. I use Gtalk for work, ooVoo to video message family/friends(should be noted I represent the company), and check AIM every couple of months for old times sake. Facebook and MySpace is a more popular alternative for my younger sister.
