WordPress 2.5

WordPress 2.5 just went gold (download). There are a stunning number of changes in this release — and I won’t bother to detail them all here. There’s probably going to be about a kabillion blog posts on that today…
I, personally, am not going to stampede into this particular upgrade though. I’ve been following the WP Testers list (archives) and… well, let’s just say I was quite surprised to see it released this morning! I wasn’t getting the impression that it was done baking. But, that could just be my misinformed take on things.
I did a series of posts last year on how to test and evaluate new WP versions on your local machine. That’s the approach I’ll be taking while I get familiar with the changes. Other folks might wish to do similar.

hate the new interface of wp whatever it is. 2.5 maybe.
If vanilla were a flavor this would be like that… only more so.
The create a post page is so plain as to be stark. FAIL
The way it handles widgets is terrible. I used to be able to see which sidebar they were in and where they were in order. Now it’s just a single giant column. FAIL.
And why? WHY? Couldn’t they add the ability to delete a widget/plug in from within the control panel? Granted I had to sell a portion of my soul to even begin to find things in there, have they forgotten some of us have been using this thing for years? But with all the newification why not give the ability to delete a widget or plug-in (You can manage other media e.g. pics in posts? FAIL.
Ugh… Just no love for this version at all. Especially hate the widget management to the point where I can’t mess with my blog at all at the moment because I can’t guess how it’ll look when I move something. Why would they assume all blogs were single side-bar blogs? Hardly ready for prime time for any but single sidebar blogs IMO. FAIL.
The more I mess with it the more I realize I have now got zero control over the appearance/placement of my widgets in my themes. Complete screw-up on the designers part. HUGE FAIL. My blog’s mostly empty at the moment, moving to new software wouldn’t kill me now. Gives me a hobby this week if I can’t figure this out relatively quickly.
I just upgraded my blog and I am loving the new version. Some features has been misplaced, otherwise than that new one is cool.
I love the upgrade. It’s quite a pain in the arse to get used to the new design, though.
