Google Email Uploader

image Boy, I sure wish this would’ve been around last year when I was converting an office to Google Apps for email!

The Google Apps Update Blog reminded me that Google Email Uploader now exists. This looks a helluva lot easier to use than what I cooked up a year and a half ago.

The Google Email Uploader is a open source desktop utility for Microsoft Windows. It uploads email and contacts from desktop email programs (like Microsoft Outlook® ) into your Google Apps mailbox. It preserves information such as sent dates and sender/recipient data, as well as the folder structure used by email programs.

I have some folks at the office with large amounts of email in Outlook archives. This might be useful to them… hope to give it a shot soon.

Anyone had a chance to try it yet?

  • I’ve written quite a bit on my site about my experiences with the GEU. I found it surprisingly buggy and could only get it working with Outlook Express. I found it’s best to move emails over 500kb via IMAP before running GEU. Also, when it stops (saying that YOU stopped it!) just restart it and it will continue.
