I just noticed that Windows XP Service Pack 3 is available from Windows Update — or you can download it directly.
I build a lot of machines for both home and work and I’m very excited to finally see this. No more 95 or so patches after an XP SP2 install!
Now I’m off to check the MS licensing site to see if there’s a volume license iso with it integrated yet.

Thats not the SP itself, just an overview of it. I expect we’ll see the fullfile download in the next 2-3 days though.
Oh, my apologies. I’ll get a proper link.
I got SP3 from Windows Update this afternoon on a freshly installed XP box, so I know it’s out there
Here’s a real SP3 link. Sorry ’bout that wrong one in the post.
Chris, I haven’t noticed if Technet has an SP3-enabled iso available yet, but I just built my own using Slipstreamer. There are a number of good and easy slipstreaming apps out there if you need one before a prebuilt iso is available.
I too am immensely thankful SP3 is out and usable – I had 28 machines needed proper patching and updating (don’t ask) so was much relieved to be able to do them in one pass. No problem with the update on any of the machines.

Ran into a none to amusing problem with it on an ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe board, the endless reboot. No mode would get me into Windows XP home 32 bit after the SP3 download/install. Luckily I have more than one machine and some one at the Tech Support Forum gave me a link to Jesper’s Blog and I saw a couple of fixes or pass bys. One was to insert a flash dive and mine went into Windows with no trouble. Remove the flash drive and the endless reboot again. Then I saw someone mention moving their mouse from a PS2 to a USB and then back after they got in the first time. Mine was in the USB so I moved it to the PS2. No flash drive in it this time and it booted with no trouble and has continued to boot with no trouble. Someone later came on to think that what had happened is it caused Windows to reassign or look at the IRQ’s. It’s the only thing that makes any sense to me, so far. If it’s correct I can not say. At all times I was able to get into the BIOS and wonder now if changing the mouse from [auto] detect would have done it as well. I would guess you could try about anything as long as you’re getting XP to reexamine the IRQ’s at least on this board.
Interestingly enough I did a check disk today and it found a corrupted file, which it fixed. Related? I have no way of knowing and stupid me, did not write down what it fixed.
System was thoroughly checked for malware and virus’s as well before the install. I would never have guessed moving the mouse port in a million years. No word back from ASUS yet and I dropped a note on the MS board.
I have since installed it on two more machines and both went off without a hitch. But do check around for what types of machines are having trouble with this before you do any downloading. And there sure are a bunch of them.
