Zoho Becomes Even More Approachable

The big news in the online office front this week was the Zoho announcement on the ability to use Google and Yahoo! accounts with their services. Before logging in, you’ll now see a new addition to the login page.

Zoho Login Dialog

This ought to help reduce some barriers to folks trying out the system. No need to create and keep track of yet another login, just use your existing Google or Yahoo! id instead. You can invite friends to share or access your documents and they can get straight to ‘em without having to create a zoho account. That’s huge!

Already have a Zoho account? Here’s a little tip:

Under http://accounts.zoho.com, if you add your Gmail and Yahoo email addresses (under ‘My Email IDs’ section) and confirm them, you’ll be able to login to your Zoho Account with either your Zoho Account, Google Account or your Yahoo! Account.

My original Zoho account is tied to a gmail id. I signed in using that ID and went straight to my account — all my saved documents were right there. Nice.

What’s missing?

No Microsoft Live ID (what we used to call Passport). No OpenID either.

To be honest, I’m more surprised about the missing Live ID than the missing OpenID. I think OpenID is tres cool, but it sure doesn’t seem to be getting adopted as much as I would’ve expected by now… Clearly the Zoho folks must think along the same lines, yes?

However, Raju’s comment does indicate that it is being considered. My take? I hope OpenId support comes sooner than later.
