More on Mesh and Remote Desktop

I think I’m missing something obvious related to Windows Live Mesh and the remote desktop feature.

For review, here’s an issue I have with it from an article I posted earlier this week:

Issue one: if someone is already logged on to the computer you wish to control, a dialog comes up asking for permission to be remote controlled. Well, that’s worthless if that logged on person is you but you’re not there. Makes it rough to quickly pop onto the home machine when at work – must remember to log off when leaving home! (I’ve logged a suggestion to streamline things a bit)

Upon further experimentation, I’ve realized you have to be logged in to get any of the mesh features. As far as I can tell, mesh doesn’t run when nobody is logged in!

Umm… hello?

So now I just have to wonder: has anyone actually used this thing for remote desktop? My only testing has been when the machines are in the same room so that I can click the permission dialog…

I hope I’m missing something obvious here.

[Updated 10 hours later] Fortunately, it seems that I was indeed missing something obvious! I’ve found a forum thread that indicates the remote desktop portion of Mesh runs as a service.
