Followup on my Ubuntu / Mouse Issue

In this morning’s post I mentioned I was having some challenges with Ubuntu (Heron / 8.04) and my mouse. In short, after a few minutes the mouse would stop working.

Unplugging and plugging back in did nothing. Ctrl-alt-backspace would just hang instead of reset X. Very annoying.

I did some web searching with little inspiration until I found this very long bug report. In there I saw mention of updating the BIOS. As I had nothing to lose, I gave that a shot this evening.

It worked! I’ve been cheerfully dinking around with Ubuntu ever since and have yet to have my mouse do anything un-mousy.
