Google Docs Spreadsheet Facelift and Gadgets

As promised in a September blog post, earlier this month we got a nice facelift for Google Docs spreadsheet. While looks aren’t everything, the facelift certainly is a good thing in spreadsheet’s case. It just “feels” more like a real app now, you know?

(and don’t get me wrong – I’ve been using the spreadsheet tool for over a year with our corporate Google Apps account)

Today I saw the Featured Gantt Charts gadget post and deemed it worth sharing. It really is rather slick and can be a nice little project management tool as well. Just define some columns and add the gadget. Instant Gantts. And since it is online, it can be easily shared by the entire project team, regardless of where they might be.

This notion of gadgets is pretty interesting and something I haven’t really paid attention to until now – I need to do some more exploring of these. For instance, the first 3 of the “Featured Gadgets” are all intriguing:

This online office stuff just might pan out…
