Hamachi Free Version Runs as a Service

LogMeIn hamachi logo Here’s something that was just pointed out to me today by a friend at work. I’m embarrassed to say I don’t know when this became a feature… but I sure am excited to see it.

The free version of Hamachi now includes the ability to run as a service!

Run Hamachi as a service!

How cool is that? This is a feature that used to only be found in the commercial version. In fact, many moons ago I wrote about a work-around to run the free version of Hamachi as a service using ServiceEx. I guess that’s no longer necessary, eh?

Wondering what Hamachi actually is? I usually describe it to folks as a very easy to use personal VPN solution. Here’s how they describe themselves:

LogMeIn Hamachi is a VPN service that easily sets up in 10 minutes, and enables secure remote access to your business network, anywhere there’s an Internet connection.

It works with your existing firewall, and requires no additional configuration. Hamachi is the first networking application to deliver an unprecedented level of direct peer-to-peer connectivity. It is simple, secure, and cost-effective.
