While doing some cleanup work in an oft-neglected email account I stumbled over a beta invite to Scrybe. I had to go check out the site to remember what exactly Scrybe was all about – that invite was from August of last year! But hey, it was still valid.
Scrybe™ is a groundbreaking online organizer that caters to today’s lifestyle in a cohesive and intuitive way.
All that and a “native” offline sync mode too! Check the video out at the bottom of this post to see why I was so excited about this over a year ago. That video doesn’t even go into details on the “Thoughtpad” feature that was added later. Thoughtpad looks like it could potentially give Evernote a run for its money.
I went ahead and registered for my beta account and poked around a bit. This thing is brilliant! I must confess to being a bit stunned at how cool it is. Hell, I was about ready to start moving my “GTD stuff” over to it until I decided to have a quick glance at their blog and forums.
It looks like this version hasn’t changed for over a year. During the past year the Scrybe team has mentioned some great new features coming in the next major version. Unfortunately, they can’t – or won’t – give a timeframe as to when that update might land.
That makes it hard to want to get too engaged with a beta product. Obviously, beta feedback isn’t really necessary when you’re building something new. Nor is it much fun getting used to one product when the next may be nothing like it. Frankly, I’m afraid of getting caught up with something that might be abandoned.
So, alas… I’ll try to keep an eye on these guys but I guess I’ll pass on the current beta version – and seriously, it shows some huge potential. Hopefully the next version will be just as cool.
Say, earlier this year I was looking for a Linux alternative for Evernote / OneNote. This could be a contender.
