New Options on Google Cal to Windows Mobile Syncing

For that past year I’ve been using OggSync for Windows Mobile to sync my Google Calendar directly to my Windows Mobile phone (see OggSync Mobile). I only have one calendar to sync, so I’ve just been using the free version. Only downside is that it isn’t automatic or on demand, so I’ve had to try and remember to run it a few times a week.

Generally that worked just fine and aside from my forgetting to run the sync a few times it has been a “good enough” solution.

Last week I heard about NuevaSync and decided to give it a shot. This one works directly with the built-in Active Sync on my phone and also can be scheduled to sync using the built-in scheduler.

No more forgetting to manually sync, it just happens magically. While my initial syncs were rather rocky (I had some massive dupe issues to deal with) once I got everything stabilized it has fallen into the “set it and forget it” school of software. It just works.

But Wait, There’s More!

You’d think I’d be happy… then Google went and announced the long awaited release of native syncing to Windows Mobile today!

Now I’m torn…

Oh hell, who am I kidding? My first sync is running as I write this paragraph :-) Sure, I was torn – for like 3 minutes. No fears though; I backed up all my contacts (with Pim Backup) before I started just in case… I’d hate to lose all the ones that were only on my phone up until now.

… [syncing] …

The contacts sync appears to have worked wonderfully and merged my phone and email accounts. Far better than I had hoped.

The Calendar Sync? Well, I have a few dupes to sort out. Honestly though, they might be dupes I missed after my testing with NuevaSync, hard to say for sure.

Oh, and I should point out that with all 3 sync options I’ve mentioned, I’ve been syncing from a Google Apps account, not the free Gmail.
