Java Up To Date Checker

February 14, 2009 by Chris · 2 Comments

Sun now has a link to visit to test if your installed java is current:

http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

The new installer also removes the previously installed environments as well. Good stuff.

Very much appreciate the heads-up on this. Java updating for clients has been SUCH a pain in the ass up until now – having to explain to them to go to their Add/Remove Programs to find out which version is currently installed, then having to explain to them to uninstall all existing versions, then go look for the current one. DUMB!

And the lame excuse for not removing the old version automatically on update – “don’t want to risk breaking an app that relied on features of an older version”. Come on – so I’d rather leave an insecure app on all my client workstations?! Why not a simple checkbox on the installer? “want to remove the old version first?” Let’s see, AV apps have been doing that since… forever?

OK, end of bitch. Thanks again for pointing this out!
