Some random bits from the social networking scene that caught my attention recently. My favorite social aggregator, Socialthing, has announced that they’ll be dropping support for their current product. They’re not pulling the plug on it until their next “big thing” launches, but no more updates or patches as APIs change in the future. Most interesting aspect to me? JavaScript, the “J” in “AJAX,” is sped up dramatically in Firefox 3.5 with the new TraceMonkey JavaScript engine. Web applications are much faster than in Firefox 3. I haven’t had much I’ve noticed something new with comments on this blog recently. It is a little bit sneaker than the normal approach, See, typically most spammers want to get their links on your blog, and they’ll certainly be sure to use the commenter’s URL field as target #1: The link there gets linked to their name. Free PR juice. Composing blog posts in MS Word and then pasting them directly into the WordPress post editor generally causes problems. Layout issues. Font sizes/faces. Broken validation. This is not really news… but based on activity at the WordPress.org support forums, people sure like to do it. Allow me to share a few thoughts.
